 Greetings everyone,

I became a member of this site a couple of months ago and mainly use it to look for interesting motorcycle and car events here in the south. So I was actually surprised to receive an email from Lee last week inviting me to introduce myself here in his corner and tell all of you about myself, my blog and some of the things that I do.

 Let’s start with my name and location; I am Floyd Finch & I am based out of Hartsville, S.C. I’ve been a dedicated gear head since I was six years old, and my dad sat me on the engine of his Chevy truck and handed me the wrenches while he talked me through a carburetor replacement. Since then I’ve been through all manner of project cars and motorcycles. Over the last couple of decades my interest has been almost solidly vintage Japanese motorcycles with the odd Brit bike or Harley passing through from time to time.

One of the things that I do is write a little blog called Motopsyco’s Asylum at http://www.motopsyco.com/ .  My page is mainly aimed at the do it yourself motorcycle & atv owner, but has event reports, product reviews, & unusual feature bikes sprinkled throughout as well.

Although I do full restorations for myself and a select few friends I have recently purchased a vapor blasting machine and am offering vapor blasting services for motorcycle parts, car parts or industrial cleaning & deburring. No other process in the world can make old corroded aluminum look as good as vapor blasting. In addition to the vapor blasting service I offer ultrasonic cleaning & refurbishment of motorcycle carburetors as well.

Now if Lee doesn’t mind I’d like to put in a plug for the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club of North America. We are celebrating our 40^th anniversary this year. As of this writing our website http://vjmc.org/  is down until February 28 2017 for a major overhaul. If you own or love the old Japanese bikes from any manufacturer you really should consider joining. Since I am a field representative in S.C. if you have any questions send me a message and I’ll try to answer any questions you may have about the group.

That’s enough about me, post a comment & show us your old motorcycles. I’ll be in the shop working on my next restoration.

Sims Academy of I&T high school automotive students have form a motor club called Motor Masters. We decide to be a non-profit community based club, with one purpose. To change our community one vehicle at a time, we made that our club motto. We host a motor show once a year (April 8, 2017) to raise money so we can buy a used car fix it up and donate it to the Peace Place, the local Women's Battered Settler.

I AM IMPRESSED and I don't impress easily.  Went to the Thursday Norcross Cruise-In, (February 2, 2017)  IT WAS INTENSE!!!  First thing it is at night, second thing there was in the neighborhood of 500 cars and the last thing that impressed me was the age.  Beside myself and my crew, I did not see (I think) anyone over 40 years old. There was great diversity, trucks, classic, foreign, hot rods and rat rods, light and sounds galore.  If you could dream it, you could wish it, it was there.  I got to give a shout out to the organizers, taking care of that many cars, that many kids, is no easy task.  BTW these kids are some of the nicest, politest bunch I have ever had the pleasure of taking photos of.  Either that or they just took pity on an old man. BUT the organizers did a great job crowd control, security and especially keeping the flow of cars coming in and going out moving.  It's every Thursday Night in Norcross.  I recommend going at least one time, to this Fountain of Youth and taking in the sights and sounds of our heirs of the car world, the younger generation.  Simply Amazing, the only thing I can say....For photos, go to Albums and click on the Thursday Night Norcross February 2, 2017 Album Cover.

The Georgia Cool Cruisers are picking up right were they left off last year.  Rick and the gang are tireless workers putting on shows in the different communities of Atlanta and always for a great cause.  The Gwinnett Varsity Sunday afternoon was no different.  Find pictures under the varsity banner in our album section.

With appearances by the members of The Unstabled Mates Mustang Club and President LeBron Grove, a collection of Chevy Belaire that would make any senior citizen nostalgic and a couple of Plymouth Valiant  that would make Al Bundy proud, it was a good collection and raising money for the Susan Komen Foundation made this show a "Best Of" for everyone.  keep up the good work guys.

 What a start to a New Year!!! First show of the year was a great surprise, hosted by the CSRA Road Angels and their president Bubba Holley at the Hooter's in Augusta on Washington Rd,  I had to look this up, the Central Savannah River Area in Augusta. Find the pictures under the Hooters banner in our Albums section.

For a sunny weekend in the middle if January, it was a good all round turn out with a nice variety of classic, rat rods, antiques some nice Vets and even a Lambo. The sounds were provided by Norm who kept us entertained with Roy Orbinson and Elvis. I understand that the CSRA Road Angels raised over $10,000 last year for local charities and have a Fall show called the Pumpkin Run that I was told was a great show.  I will put it on my calendar. In the past we have not been able to reach many of the car clubs outside Atlanta but my goal is in 2017 to go on the road with my camera and shake some hands. I got to thank Bubba and his wife genie who extended their friendship and the red carpet.  I hope to make a return visit real soon.

Yes there is Hope!!! How many times have I sat at a car show with my friends and we wonder what is going to happen to our sport, who will be there to carry on the pride and commitment to car shows.  We see a young person (under 40) and we all shake our collective heads and say "We are glad young people are getting involved"  Well folks relax, I found some of them and they are us!  I saw on the calendar a Toy drive in Winder sponsored by "The No Regrets" Car club and what a show it was! The club itself would make any purist proud, requirements include, correct me if I am wrong air suspension. I heard that another requirement is that you had to work on your own car, whether it is official or not, I was still impressed.  At the show the No Regrets headed up by Chris Few who was playing Santa, they rolled out their projects in all stages of completion, from  beautiful art work, to a powder coated frame and drive train that had 4 wheels and tires. To believe me you have to see the pictures under the album 'No Regrets" As the day grew on and warner the car show took on the look of a family outing with kids every where. Then again at that age I had a kid at home so where else to take him but to a park?   I got to give Chris and the No Regrets Car Club 5 out of 5 stars, if I had such a thing, from the cause to the trophies, excellent job. The No Regrets car Show in Winder is one that I will make sure to put on my calendar to attend next year.!!!

Wow what A WEEK!!! Thursday I had a chance to go to the Thursday night Gwinnett Cruse-inWow what A WEEK!!! Thursday I had a chance to go to the Thursday night Gwinnett Cruse-in what was so extraordinary if I was the oldest guy there and there were some serious car enthusiast and gearheads, what a rush!!! Think about 1954, cruising the driven in hamburger shop with the high school kids.  Now change it to 2016, driving foreign and American drift cars and add about 800 kids. What a night?  We had a little of everything, classics and foreign.  We had a Humvee that would make a Cinemax proud and a young man who brought drove his speaker to the show.  There were others but he was the crowd favorite by far.  I have to hand it to the organizers, in this time, when you get a bunch of kids you look for trouble, not here. These young folks were a cut above the rest, everyone was, friendly, happy and even polite to the old man who asked if he could take your picture with the car. FYI there was 3 police cars there when I got there, they got so bored, they went home. My visit there was impromptu at the last minute so we did not stay long, you can see pictures under ALBUMS on our website. They have a cruise in every Thursday night and if this was any indication of things to expect, I am looking forward to next time.  I am not a politician however, if this kind of event gets kids off the street corners and out of mom's basement maybe we should think about having shows in other parts of Atlanta, just a thought. Converting a vehicle into a dedicated racecar is part of American heritage. Until now, it has been an unquestioned practice by enthusiasts, industry and regulators that has worked harmoniously with previous application of the Clean Air Act.

The Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2016 (RPM Act), introduced by, U.S. Representatives Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Henry Cuellar (D-TX), Richard Hudson (R-NC), Bill Posey (R-FL) and Lee Zeldin (R-NY) will address any doubts regarding regulation of racecars and give the public and racecar industry much-needed certainty regarding how the Clean Air Act is applied.

Problem: In July 2015, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a proposed rule that would:

Prohibit the conversion of emissions-certified vehicles into racecars. Make it illegal to sell any emissions-related parts for those cars.
The EPA contends this is “tampering” and that a vehicle is forever a “motor vehicle” subject to the Clean Air Act, even if it is unregistered, the license have been plates removed and the vehicle is never driven on the highway.

Solution: The Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act of 2016 (RPM Act):

Confirms that it has always been Congress’ intent that racecars are not included in the Clean Air Act’s (CAA) definition of “motor vehicle.” Makes clear that it has always been legal to modify a street vehicle into a racecar used exclusively at the track.

Confirms that modifying these vehicles for exclusive track use would not be considered tampering.

Christmas in Braselton! Even Santa made a guest appearance at Year One last Saturday (11/21) and with him he brought some of that North Wind chill! Got to give a shout out to Keith and Marci, very good job. We had everything from the 2016 Corvette to the 1934 FORD from Shane at Gillespie Motors.  Besides of a good variety of the classics, I also noticed that there was a good representation of car clubs, Ga Street Rods and Dixie Cruisers to name a couple and I also want to acknowledge the South East Wheels Events members who were in attendance.  As you probably know South East Wheels Events has almost 6000 members, it always brings a smile to me when I am taking pictures and I ask someone if they are familiar with our web-site and they say "Yes, I get the emails from Mike"  I am very humbled and Thankful. Not only am I thankful, because it is that time of year but, with the change of political winds, I can now say Merry Christmas!!!! I have an editorial correction (Thanks Rodney) to make I reported that the organizer of the Suwannee Car Show was Bill Buckner, it in fact was Bill Buckley.  Sorry about that Bill.

Last weekend I had the chance to attend the Goodmark Chevrolet Car Show in Commerce Georgia. Organized and judged by our own Mike Thies , it was a great turnout with a good selection of antiques and classics.  The great thing is the brand new Chevy engine, still in the crate, that was given as a door prize. So anyone could win.  Throw in a bunch of Hot Dogs, Chips and Drinks and a great DJ from garage 71 and it equaled a good time for all.

I got a bit of news, I heard a rumor that Jay Leno will be attending a car show in Marietta and giving out an award in February.  I will report more a details are released. Next week I will be at the Year One Charity Car Show in Braselton, knowing Year One it should be a great event with a lot of "Muscle": Hope to see you there.

This Sunday 11/6 we went to the 4th annual Suwanee Classic Car Show, our buddy Billy Buckner did a great job organizing this one It was a special salute and tribute to veterans and was a very well put together event, very interesting and not you a typical car show.  The folks behind the scenes should be very happy it was a great event with a great turn-out,  at last count I heard 140 cars but they were still coming in.  I know it was packed!  Not only some of the best variety of cars I have seen, everything from Dragsters, we even had a Junior race card to Pick up trucks. I would like to extend a shout out and Thank You to a couple of our local car clubs for attending The Amazing Corvettes and The Unstabled Mustangs, it is always a pleasure to see you and your being there supports the car show community.  I get asked all the time about this car club or that car club and I always refer people to our Clubs and Groups page, so make sure you keep your club updated so newcomers can find you. You know you are at a good show when the winners from the last 2 shows are there, Chris "Doc" Sab and his Caddy from Lilburn and the 2016 Mustang that took first place at Men of Grace. We got there early for set up, got some amazing pictures of the town center at sun up. I got to visit with a few of the merchants, they where cooking and pouring to fill the needs of a couple thousand folks who invaded their town on a Sunday afternoon and everybody was having fun  I have always loved car shows in the town or the festival, it just gives car show an opportunity to be part of and gives everyone a chance to show their best..

What a wonderful weekend for car shows!! What beautiful weather that brings out the crowds!!! I had double duty this weekend, I got to attend a new car show put on by the Winder Noon Lions Club with the help of the Dixie Cruisers  We had a good variety of classic cars and trucks and had a good turn out from the town of Winder, which gave it that small town homey feel.  If you have never attended a car show put on by the Dixie Cruisers, I recommend it.  The judging is excellent but more important, it's family. If you are not a member of a LOCAL car club and you would like to check out a local group gets together for not just outing and events but also does some really great community work for such folks as the Shriners, Humane Society and The Lions, then go to our Groups Page type in Dixie Cruisers and contact Charlie or Walt.  It will not only be great for you but, you might help someone else that really needs you.

 First I must apologize for being late on my report. As most hobbyist's in this industry, I love and enjoy evry minute, until my wif reminds me of the Honey Do List that I promised last month.  I am very fortune to have a wife who is very benelvolent with by extra circular activities. HoneyDo List is done, well mostly done so back to work.

How can this be work?

I had the pleasure of attending the Men of Grace Car Show again thjis year.  I have been 3 out of the 4. It is one of my favorites (see album) not only because of the wide variety of 134 Classic Cars 1934 Ford to 2016 Vipers not because the rffle of a 1967 rag top Mustang totally redone from contributions form the Men of Grace, but what gets the "Best of" in this reporter's vote is when they say  Family Friendly" "Community Orientated' "Neighbors"" those are the words that describe The Men of Grace Car Show. the judging was excellent, the trophies were superb, but mainly the staff whoever wherever you met them, you talked to them.  you got that feeling we are just old friends. So a Good Job to Rus Mazza and the other members of Men of Grace volunteers, Good Job and hope to see you next year.

We went to the October 15, 2016 Sugar Hill Georgia Festival, Classic Car and VW Show.  I must admit when we started out, it was one COOL event.  Temperature about 50 degrees! The busiest vendor at the Festival that morning was the guys at Brew Coffee.   Everyone I talked to said they were praying for the sun.  I guess enough people prayed that the Almighty heard us and about 9;30 am, as Richie Haven sang  "Here Comes the Sun"

,I got to give a shout out to the Car Show organizer Bill Buckner, there was a couple of things I noticed about this event, one of the things was about 2/3 of the cars entered were newbies, only had been to 2 or 3 car shows prior, Bill was the consummate host. From parking lot duties, to answering questions about "people's choice" from spectators and doing the judging, Bill was a true professional, a great example for car shows everywhere.

The other thing that impressed me was the people, the staff and volunteers at the Sugar Hill Festival. Megan from the Sugar Hill City Hall was a great host. There was always a volunteer, standing nearby or asking "can I help you'. Loading, unloading, parking cars, even hooking up the PA, there was always a friendly face there to help out.

the festival it self was spectacular, there was a dozen food truck and other great places to eat, Fronteria and Bonefish were both dishing it out, for desert I found Tracy's Tastes a cheesecake factory on wheels, love the chocolate. There was bouncy houses and a ton of games for the kids, they even had a Ferris wheels.  The Sugar Hill Festival was a great time and enhanced the Car Show experience for owners and spectators alike.

Good morning, it is a honor and a privilege to be included in the South East Wheels and Events family. I hope has we travel down this road that you will get to know me and I will get to know you. I believe in the truth and yet the truth can be viewed in many different lights, my goal is to inform.  Everyone has an opinion and I do not mind discussing any side, however, we can disagree without being disagreeable.

As many of my forefathers wee told, the views of The Corner are not sanctioned or shared by South East Wheels and Events.com or Mike Theis.  It's just you and me.

First thing I got to do is give a shout out to Rick Ellis and The Georgia Cool Cruisers, the Gwinnett County Police and Fire Show at Cool Ray Field was one of the highlights of the season. You got to love a show that includes some of the best classic cars  from the area but also includes, helicopters, SWAT vehicles, Fire Trucks and even a Bomb Disposal Robots. I would also like to thank a couple of our sponsors for attending the event Year One Muscle Car Parts and Streetside Classis Consignment.  During the off season many of you folks will be doing modifications, selling that project car or starting a new one.
