Hello everyone, I'm William Reidling and I am promoting the benefit car show for the Winder Barrow High School Band Program. I thought I would tell you a little bit about the our band programs at the high school. This upcoming year we will have 9 different band programs for the high school student. We will have the Marching Band, Basketball Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, Small Chamber Ensemble and the Freshman Band. We are also offering a Music Theory course which is a college level course. Our band students try out each year for All State Band and from 1987 to 2009 we have had 67 students perform in the All State Band. The students also try out for Distrct Honor Band each year. From 1987 to 2009 we have had 285 students perform in the District Honor Band. Students try out for the Governor's Honor Program which is the highest academic honor a music student can achieve in the State of Georgia. We have had 19 students placed G.H.P. since 1989. Of these 19 we have had 10 majored in music in college. Of those 10 we have 4 that are active, certified music educators. Twice a year, the W-BHS Bands undergo a rigorous review process, based upon the ratings of their performance at both Marching Band (in October) and Symphonic / Concert Bands (in March) Performance Evaluations. The Bulldogg Marching Band has not failed to earn a rating of “Superior,” the highest rating possible, in 27 consecutive years. This feat is unmatched, to our knowledge, by any surrounding high school marching band. Most years, not only is the overall rating superior, but also every judge on the multi-judge panel awards a superior rating. The W-BHS Concert Band has earned superior or excellent ratings on this level for at least 8-10 years, since the band programs’ size at W-BHS mandated a second band be created. The W-BHS Symphonic Band plays literature on grade 5 or 6, and has earned superior ratings on this most difficult level. The Symphonic Band is renowned in the state of Georgia for its musical standards, as evidenced by the numerous invitational performances at GMEA Conventions, and various college band clinics as a guest performance band. We perform at such events like the Winder Christmas Parade, Winder Veterans Day Events, Tail Gate Barrow, Military Funerals, Football Games, Basketball Games and many more. This up coming year we will have around 150 band students in the various programs. However, like everything else around us in these hard times we need your support. The school system, like many others are cutting budgets and ours have been affected. We will lose our Associate Band Director this coming year due to the short falls in the economy. All proceeds from the benefit car show we are promoting for July 30, 2011 will go directly to support and help fund the band programs and needed band equipment. We are asking for sponsorships and donations to be used as door prizes. If anyone would like to sponsor or know someone who would sponsor the car show or would like to donate items to be used as door prizes please either call or email us. We are printing T shirts that will have all of the sponsors names on the back for advertising and they will be for sale at the show. We are also going to announce several times during the show the participating sponsors. We are going to have a 50 / 50 drawing, food and drinks available at the show. The show will be held at the W. Clair Harris Stadium at the Winder Barrow High School / 272 North Fifth Avenue; Winder, Ga. 30680 on July 30, 2011 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Help us in getting the word out to all antique and classic car, truck and tractor owners that this is a worthy cause and we hope to see all of you there.
